Myst Hints is a free HyperCard stack for people who may be stuck in some part of the CD ROM game, “Myst” by Brøderbund and Cyan. It allows you to view progressively more obvious clues to specific questions in 7 separate topics. Because it remembers the clues you have already viewed, you can refer to it only when you are truly stuck, so that the pleasure of problem-solving remains as ‘untainted’ as possible.
Using Myst Hints
----------------
Myst Hints requires HyperCard or HyperCard Player 2.1 or later.
1. Select the Myst Hints stack in the Finder.
2. Choose Open from the File menu.
After a few moments, Myst Hints’ main window appears.
If this is the first time you have opened it, Myst Hints
displays its version information.
Click in the window to continue.
3. Choose a topic from the top pop-up menu.
If you are unsure of which topic applies, try finding your
question in the General and Myst Island topics first.
4. Choose a question from the bottom pop-up menu.
If the question you need answered does not appear in the
pop-up menu, try another topic by repeating steps 3 and 4.
5. Click the Next Hint button.
Or press the Return or Enter key.
The next hint appears. If you need to see a further hint, repeat step 5 until you are sufficiently ‘clued in.’
The Preferences File
--------------------
Myst Hints saves the list of hints that you have viewed in a file named, “Myst Hints Preferences” inside the Preferences folder (which is within the System Folder). If you remove Myst Hints from your computer and then reinstall it later, Myst Hints will still remember which hints you have viewed.
However, if you would like to remove Myst Hints from your computer permanently, you may wish to remove its preferences file as well.
Editing Myst Hints
------------------
If you’re one of those ‘smart-Alecs’ who have finished the game <grin>, then you may wish to add a few hints of your own to Myst Hints and redistribute your modified copy. Please read the Freeware Notice before you redistribute this software.
(If you *don’t* fit this category, please don’t spoil your game; skip to the next section, Freeware Notice; you can always come back to this section later.)
To edit Myst Hints, refer to the separate document, Using the Editor.

Also, I would really appreciate it if you send me a copy of the modified stack, or at least a brief note, at one of the FirstClass e-mail addresses below. Thank you!
